It was a night for Kings, ballerinas and girls with dragon tattoos at last night’s 2011 Orange British Academy Film Awards.
With stunning dresses on the red carpet at The Royal Opera House in Covent Garden and much deserved honors being handed out inside, including Colin Firth winning Best Actor for a second time in a row for “The King’s Speech” following last year’s “A Single Man” accolade, there was much to celebrate.
“The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” was recognized in the Film Not in the English Language category, David Fincher picked up the Best Director BAFTA for “The Social Network”, while an absent Natalie Portman was honored with the Best Actress award for her work in “Black Swan”.
And as expected by many “The King’s Speech” stood out from the crowd with Geoffrey Rush and Helena Bonham Carter winning awards for their supporting roles in the film, while it also scooped up the Outstanding British Film trophy.
I’ve never heard of The Buffalo Club before (which makes sense, considering I live in Pittsburgh and it’s in L.A.), but apparently it’s quite the celebrity hot spot. Last night, the club held a pre-Critic’s Choice party, and all kinds of famous people showed up: Robert Downey Jr., Colin Farrell, Tommy Lee Jones, Dwayne Johnson, Christian Slater, Julianne Moore, Jason Statham, Hilary Swank and Cuba Gooding, Jr.
That’s quite the impressive guest list!
Julianne Moore spent the majority of this week in London promoting her new movie, Chloe, so it’s no wonder she looked so tired when our photogs caught up with her at the airport. Her hair is a little scraggly at the ends, but her sunglasses are faaabulous. I really, really want them.
Still, her outfit is throwing me off a little. The horizontal stripes are making me a little woozy (or maybe it’s the three Benadryl pills I had for dinner?), and I’m 97 percent sure that her jeans are pegged in the back. If she pegged her jeans, she’ll get a free pass from me FOR LIFE! Any woman who can wear pegged jeans and walk around town like it ain’t no thang deserves to be treated like the queen that she is.
You know what? I really like Julianne Moore. She’s one of my favorite actresses and all around kind of kicks a lot of ass. Yeah, she’s kind of a hippie (Birkenstocks? Really?), but I can overlook that. You know she’s a ton of fun after a few margaritas.
Julianne was bombarded with fans and crazy New Yorkers yesterday outside of the Late Show with David Letterman studios, and she smiled and signed autographs. Now this is how movie stars should behave!
